A correlation between student's interest in watching anination movie and their vocabulary competence

This is one of my opinion to improve education system of Indonesia. As my future job as an English teacher is getting near, there are some ideas flow from my brain. Since the education system in indonesia seems mediocre and boring, I try to prove some revolutionary idea to change the ancient system although it was refused by my lecturer (OMFG!!). But it's okay, no one can refuse it here... LoL..

There are students and teachers as the part of teaching-learning activities. A teacher is a person who gives the students knowledge. A student is a person who tries to learn new knowledge. There are 2 kinds of interactions between teacher and students; directly and indirectly. Directly, the teacher can teach students using learn materials just like common lesson. Teacher can also make the interaction with the students by using media such as magazine, book, films, movies, etc. In this study, the writer tries to present animation or cartoon films to teach vocabulary indirectly.

 

The use of film is becoming widespread as more facilities become available, and teachers are obviously keen on taking advantages of a resource which promises to make the story more stimulating (Anthony: 186)

Media as a tool in learning have an important function. It provides further help to the students and the teacher. We can get more information by using the visual media, audio-visual media, or the written media. Recently, we have developed technology that we can use as media to help the learning process simpler.  Based on the my observations, a young learner has great interest on watching animation or cartoon movies since it is considered to be funny. Although most of foreign movies have been translated into Indonesian, there are a lot of downloadable movies in internet that its text is in English which can provides help in learning English.
Using animation movies as an alternative media of teaching young learners can be considered as the greatest way since its pleasure to the students. Students have four abilities that have to develop in teaching-learning condition; listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Hopefully, by using the relevant media the students can improve their competence and mastery of the English vocabulary.

Students’ competence in vocabulary will help them in learning English. The faster they mastering vocabulary, the faster they are mastering English words. It will provide more development to students’ ability in English since from the vocabularies students can express their ideas and they can develop their movement in learning.
Teaching English is getting hard now. Students have low interest in using dictionary because of its old boring-style. Finding new or difficult words by using dictionary also take a long time and it must be boring and tiring. So, it is considered that the teacher should teach vocabularies in different ways which is more interested and enjoyable to avoid students’ ignorance to the lesson. Hopefully, by the help of the media students can learn more vocabularies without getting bored and pay more attention the teacher.
